Reiki
(pronounced Ray-Key) refers to Rei, meaning "universal" (referring to
the spiritual dimension of the soul) and Ki, meaning "vital life-force
energy" which flows through all that is alive. This concept is
essential to martial arts and Chinese medicine; the Chinese term is
"Chi." When combined, Reiki represents the concept of "universal
life-force energy".
How does it
work?
Each person
can be seen as a piece of wire which conducts energy. This energy
flows through and around the wire. When the energy becomes
blocked, slowed or imbalanced, the wire does not function properly and
may "short out".
The Reiki
practitioner has been attuned to act as a "channel" through which
universal life-force energy is conducted toward the recipient. The
recipient’s energy fields, at the physical, emotional and spiritual
levels, draw Reiki energy toward problematic areas for realignment of
the energy fields, opening of blocked channels of energy flow, and to
reconnect the recipient to their own universal life force.
Reiki is
similar to Therapeutic Touch. Participants lay down fully clothed,
and the practitioner gently lays hands on or above the recipient to act
as a conduit for energy transfer. People typically describe
feelings of great peace and relaxation, and often report images or
insights that are very meaningful. The energy can work on
physical, emotional and spiritual levels.
As a Reiki
Master, Kate is also able to train people to practice Reiki on
themselves or others.
